Lake County, Indiana receives annual grant allocations from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME). Lake County Community Economic Development has jurisdiction over Lake County with exception of Hammond, Gary and East Chicago Indiana. Those three (3) cities directly receive funding from HUD to create programs of planning for the city they are entitled.
The purposes of these funding sources, is to assist low- and moderate-income families and households, which are those that earn less than 80% of the area median income. The funds are used primarily for three goals: • Provide decent affordable housing, • Create suitable living environments, and • Expand economic opportunities.
The term of this Action Plan begins September 01, 2026 and to end August 31, 2026.
