The Lake County Board of Elections and Registration is thrilled to announce they are hosting their first public
“Behind the Ballot” open house on Saturday, March 14 from 10am to 2pm. This free behind the scenes look
at LCBER operations will:
- Educate the community about their voting rights and processes.
- Connect voters and candidates to all the resources at their disposal to vote and run for office.
- Offer ways for community members to actively support voting and elections in Lake County.

10am-12pm: Are You Ready to Vote, Lake County?
In this informative presentation, LCBER Director Michelle Fajman and Assistant Director Jessica Messler will explain:
- Voter registration drives
- Steps to voting
- New laws
- Common pitfalls
- Is my ballot safe?
- LCBER voter and candidate services
12-2pm: Information Fair Opens
Enjoy some light refreshments while you learn more about LCBER services, get live assistance, and just have some fun learning about how elections and voter registration works. Stations include:
- Ballot machines
Practice voting on our current machines or check out the machines your grandma may have used!
- Voter Chutes and Ladders
Want to know what happens if you forget to sign your application? Learn that and more in our new interactive game.
- Get involved: Poll workers and volunteers
Want to help with elections and get PAID up to $175? Come learn about our poll worker positions, our student poll worker program, and our volunteer options. Our staff can help with questions or even with completing any forms on site!
- Absentee Ballots
Not able to vote in person? Discover if you qualify for a mailed absentee ballot, get help filling out the application, and learn all the deadlines for getting and returning your ballot.
- Travel Board (In-home live voting)
Did you know that, for some people with qualified challenges, the polls can come to you or your facility? Learn more about this important program that extends live voting access to those with mobility issues or other impairments to confined voters. Staff will be on hand to answer questions, offer application assistance, and discuss ways to offer this service at qualified facilities.
