The Lake County Board of Elections and Registration is thrilled to announce two exciting civic education opportunities for high school students this April:
- Student Pollworker Program/Hoosier Hall Pass
The LCBER is continuing its tradition of offering Lake County high-school students 16-17 years old a PAID opportunity to get hands-on experience as a pollworker! No experience necessary. Students can earn up to $175. Public, private, and homeschooled students ages 16-17 are all encouraged to apply. Click here to download the application.
- Courthouse Rocks! Civics for Students with Michelle Fajman. April 29th, 9-11:30am
All Lake County High School students – public, private, and homeschooled – are invited to this free non-partisan public event where they can:
- (9am-10am): Early vote (if eligible), check/update/register to vote in future elections, apply to be a pollworker.
- (10-11:30am): Meet their local county elected officials, with lightning-round descriptions of what they do, followed by a short voting 101 with Michelle Fajman.

“As the center of elections and voting in Lake County, preparing our students to engage in civic life is a responsibility we take very seriously at the LCBER,” says LCBER Director Michelle Fajman. “But I’ll be honest, this might be the most fun thing I do all year. When we say civics is fun, we mean it. Our hope is that by providing these engaging, hands-on activities, we’re helping get Lake Count students excited to assume leadership roles in our democracy and discover ways they can be part of the process. What could be more important?”
